Public interest in the conservation of Western North Carolina’s natural resources spans more than a century. We surveyed approximately 40 interest groups with a relatively small response rate. However, we can still present the issues those groups identified independently of the survey, as well as list the types of groups (forest industry, land trusts, federal and state agencies, institutions of higher education, conservation and preservation) that are active in Western North Carolina.
